I have already covered this in the past, but I recently got an email from Neil Hammerschlag campaigning to bring Sharkwater (I still cannot get over the DVD cover) to China. By now everyone knows where I stand in reference to the movie and Rob Stewart...HOWEVER...I really do believe that showing this movie in China will have an impact. I am surprised it has been taking so long - should have debuted there before showing in the US (I know, I know)

Loblaws and Great Canadian Superstores sells shark fin soup
It has been a long time since we have heard anything from Rob Stewart - almost three months of silence on his blog...I think this is also the first time since all the movie fanfare that he has talked about something else than awards, show times, or parties.
"The Great Canadian Superstores (owned by Loblaws) are now selling canned shark fin soup in time for the Chinese New Year. After Sharkwater’s release in Canada, Galen Weston, the CEO of Loblaws, brought me out to dinner with his wife Alexandra, and expressed his great interest in supporting the cause…..
Selling shark fins en masse; supporting the destruction of sharks, the oceans and the ecosystems we depend on for survival is how Loblaws supports the cause. Its outrageous that its happening in our own backyard… after we already know shark populations have dropped more than 90%.
Help us fight this, and show Loblaws and Galen Weston that this was a bad decision… and lets get shark fin removed from Canadian Superstores. There’s still time to turn this around.
1. Sell your loblaws stock. Now!
2. Write letters to:
Customer_Service@loblaw.ca
service@provigo.ca
investor@loblaw.ca
shareholders@loblaw.ca
3. And call Galen Weston’s corporate office:
(416) 922-2500"
Rob - lead this effort - you already have the connection!

Congratulations to Rob Stewart
I hope the sharks will continue to benefit from the film, Sharkwater, and Rob's growing fame.

Sharkwater DVD Launch Celebration

Sharkwater is probably one of the best shark documentaries I have seen. In 2006 I saw the movie twice (Ft. Lauderdale and Key West) - also had a chance to have dinner with Rob.
On April 11, 2008 - Shark Savers are having a party which will be hosted by Rob and Captain Paul Watson:
Where: Pink Elephant, 527 W 27th Street, New York City
There is a $20 cover charge if you buy the tickets in advance, and $25 at door. I am not sure where or how this money will be spent - I assume it is a 100% donation going to the cause - that would be the only right thing to do.
My only question is: Why is Rob featured so prominently on the movie poster - promoting sharks or himself? I do not think I have ever seen a documentary director on a movie poster before.

Should my mom be jealous?

Nice shot by Roger Horrocks of my old man and his mistress...
I just finished watching the Larry King Live special on sharks - and was pleasantly surprised by the message, panel, and what the survivors of shark encounters had to say. Rob Stewart (Sharkwater) was also interviewed who I had the pleasure to meet and have dinner with in Key West.
Watch his movie "Sharkwater" when it comes out!

Sharkwater
I had the pleasure to watch Sharkwater in November, twice actually. It is probably the best shark documentary that I have ever seen - Discovery Shark Week - get a clue. Rob Stewart directed and filmed the movie, which has been winning awards at all the film festivals it has participated in.
I met Rob in Key West - standup guy...
Two thumbs up...highly recommended!
