As much I wish 2009 would end on a positive note - it will not...and for a year that was supposed to be for the sharks we still saw more losses than victories. There is still a lot of work to be done - this shark is a reminder...what does it say when we cannot enforce small marine protected areas, how will we protect an entire species?

This makes about 5-9 animals this year I am aware of. Do you know if there's a concerted effort to remove the nets aside from online?
I would fully support a regional office and staff to move on the gov side with some strong and sustained media.
Netting is a 1950's answer to a modern issue.
Who's taking the lead here and what's the overall gameplan?
It would seem to me "if" S.A could get nets to come down that would open the door to Australia and beyond.
Is there a viable alternative to netting being proposed for 2010?
I am not sure of other efforts - I believe several dive operators have had meetings with the local government - but do not know what is going on there.
I wish there was a way to stop those people from hunting sharks...they are crucial for the oceans' environment...
