Aidan Murray Medley kills bull shark

What "good" can come from bad parenting and a lack of education: Aidan Murray Medley - a 13 year old that ironically wants to become a marine biologist when he grows up - killed a bull shark, check - next on list Great Hammerhead - seriously, doesn´t he have someone close to stop him?? This is the second bull shark this little hero killed.

For the complete story go to Shark Diver's blog.

It is getting to be exhausting: First Craig Clausen kills a tiger shark, then NBC under the "expert" guidance of shark divers screw up sharks´ image even more, and now little Adrian adds another to the list... March has certainly been a bad month.

Why why why... It's incomprehensible!? So glad there are voices against this... Like I always say:
We only protect that which we love, we only love something we know... people need to KNOW sharks, to oneday PROTECT them, it's a love thing...
Hope I can help somewhere along the way, as you do! Thank you!

Shark finning kills one hundred million sharks a year... bycatch kills fifty million sharks a year... people like this kill MAXIMUM a few hundred sharks a year.

Why is it that we're focusing on this so much?

Also, Hanli- "like I always say:
We only protect that which we love, we only love something we know"- That's a great thought. So great that the person who originally said it, Baba Dioum, would probably appreciate attribution other than "like I always say".

David - this is from your profile on your blog:

"He is the author of the upcoming book “Why Sharks Matter: Using New Environmentalism to Show The Economic And Ecological Importance of Sharks, The Threats They Face, and How You Can Help”."

- reader the last few words...

BTW - why are you not posting these kind of comments on the blog you contribute to - Underwater Thrills? I believe Patric wrote about the exact same thing.

We don´t focus on this "so" much - it just angers us to see such inhuman behavior.

We are well aware of the 100 + million sharks killed every year.

That does not blind our eyes for rogue behavior when it happens - and gets publicity.

Hello, interesting developments here...
Firstly, David, (whysharksmatter) I do always say it, because I believe it, have never claimed it as my own, no matter who said it first..! And yes, shark finning is OF COURSE a greater killer than 13 yr old boys BUT it's the same ignorance and lack of care that allows it to exist! So I choose to remain upset about this post, and again thanks Felix for stories big and small...
